These cowls were so much fun to make. I used alpaca yarn combined with a color-changing yarn and knit them together--double yarn, I guess. Use a circular needle.
To be honest, I don't remember how many stitches I cast on. It needs to be a number divisible by six like 84 or 78.
Then make sure there are no twists in your cast on row. When you are certain there are no twists, rotate the end once (360 degrees). It doesn't matter which way.You can see from the photo that each one twists a different way. Then start knitting the next row. Check after each round in the beginning to make sure you have exactly one twist.
Ribbed rows: k2 p2 for four rounds. k2tog or add a stitch (so you now have 83 or 85) [you will notice that the angle of the pattern goes one way in the green cowl and the other in the pink one. If you add a stitch, your angle will go away from your dominant hand. If you stitch two together, it will angle the other way.).
Pattern: k4 p2. Keep going till desired length. repeat ribbed rounds. Cast off. Be careful not to cast off too tightly so you can get it over your head.
