I liked the Lyons yarn so much that I got more. And I made this above cowl (just like the first but a little smaller) and the slouch hat all from one skein! This is just perfect from the first beach bbq of summer to the colors of autumn, through the holidays and cold winter to Valentine's Day.
I actually had not intention of making another blanket (not without a specific person to make it for). But when I bought the first skein, it had a pattern on it that said two skeins were needed, one of a second color--to make a contrasting border. It really looked like I could make a small blanket with just one, but neophyte that I am, I bought this one as well. I think it only took about half the skein for that first blanket. So now I used the other color and a similar pattern to make another. Perhaps I'll try matching baby hats and booties. Then I could finally make a blanket combining both yarns. Hmmm.
I bought this along with some red and white yarn planning to make more Christmas themed knitting for this winter (months and months away). But back at home (and not under the store lights), this was not a Christmas green. In fact, together wit the red and white, I thought of a flag not the holidays. Still, it is a pretty color. So I made simple circular scarf (is it an infinity scarf if there's no twist). I figured I'd use the entire skein, but at a certain point realized it was long enough to wrap twice. Not sure I have enough left for a hat or anything, but I might try--or maybe a green and white hat...
Okay, so I'm not sure if I should call this a short scarf or a cowl. It wraps once loosely around the neck and then you slip one side through a slit in the other so the twisted parts hang down. I used autumn colored yarn for a neck warmer you'll just fall for (ha ha). Still have some yarn leftover, maybe for a hat or another cowl.
I am reposting this scarf because it is way way down there. The news is that you can also find it on allknitting.com.
http://www.allfreeknitting.com/Knit-Scarves/Potato-Chip-Knit-Scarf Or search for potato. Oddly, if you search potato chip, it does not show up. I still want to make another one of these for Christmas. When I started this scarf, I actually had an infinity scarf in mind so I made the scarf a little narrow. I wanted to try a scarf with a diagonal pattern. it's actually easier on a circular cowl than a scarf because when you turn your work over, the angle reverses. But then I got to the end of the yarn and had to undo a row in order to bind off. In the end, I left it as a scarf instead of sewing the ends together. I suppose I still could, but I'd need thread instead of using the yarn.
I just loved this yarn when I saw it--red with some pink and white. This thin is perfect year round. So, I decided to make a tighter cowl that is closer to the neck. I have a short neck, so I folded it in. I've seen cowl patterns in the past that have a solid color cowl and then a thick stripe of another color. So that's what I did here. You could rotate the cowl to put the stripe anywhere, even hide it in the back. This is perfect any time: Christmas season, Valentine's Day, patriotic days or anytime you want to decorate your outfit with some red. I used a simple seed stitch so the cowl is reversible.
