I don't think I can even explain how I made this. But I did want to show it off. It took a couple of false starts. At first, I took the sparkly pink yarn and my leftover burgundy yarn and knit them together. I was using an almost random pattern between knit and purl to look like a raspberry. But that sparkly yarn is itchy. So I ripped it all out and did the double knitting technique my daughter taught me so the scarf is double sided--the itchy yarn only on the outside (you could wear it "inside-out" if it doesn't bother you). After five rows, I realized that keeping one yarn always on the right side and one on the wrong side would make a gap and the cowl would not keep its shape properly. So every five rounds, I used the soft yarn on both the inside and outside to attach front and back together. I knew I did not have enough of the back yarn but I also had leftover blue of same gage as the burgundy. By the way, the sparkly yarn is thinner. This means it is kind of pulled so you see the back yarn peaking through. I wanted this to happen so you have a change when the blue peaks through instead. I'm glad I finished the scarf with the blue ribbed edge because I feel like it ties the whole thing together.
After making these last two cowls two days in a row, I overdid the knitting. My knuckles, hands, and fingers are not happy so I am taking a break from knitting. Really, knitting was just supposed to be something to do an hour or so at the end of the day so I felt better about sitting and watching TV. I've become too obsessed (and too sedentary). So, maybe this is a good thing to force me to be more disciplined of limiting the time I knit (and sit).
