It's finally finished! These type of scarves use lots of yarn and take a long time. But, it's only the knit stitch and slip stitch (and in this case, changing color).
I suggest a skein and a half of the main color and half a skein of the other.
Key
k = knit
sl = slip stitch from the back
ccb = change color from the back--both yarns in the back, pull color one up and over color two.
ccf = change color from the front--color 2 yarn should already be in front. Bring color 1 yarn to front. Bring color 2 yarn over it and then to the back (because you need to knit the next stitch).
turn: turn the needles to go the other way.
Cast on 2 st color two, 16 st color one (with two inch tail), 2 st color two
row 1 (knit all the way across) : knit 2, ccb, k16, ccf k2
row 2 (knit from outside to center): sl1 k1, ccb, k7, turn (you will still have 11 st left)
row 3 (knit toward outside): sl1, k6, ccf, k2
row 4 (knit toward center): sl1 k1 ccb k5, turn
row 5 (knit toward outside): sl1 k4 ccf k2
row 6 (knit toward center): sl1 k1 ccb k3 turn
row 7 (knit toward outside): sl1 k2 ccf k2
row 8 (knit all the way across): sl1 k1 ccb k16 ccf k2
Repeat rows 2-7. This will now be on the other side of the scarf.
Repeat row 8 to cross back again.
Repeat rows 2-8 to desired length. (my scarf is around 64 inches)
Cast off leaving a few inches of color one yarn (and enough color 2 to tie off).
To finish (optional):
you can pull the corners of the bottom end together, use color one to knit/crochet/sew them. Tie the ends from color two to each other.
Repeat this process with the top of the scarf as well.
